Record No.3 of satellite tracking project on white-fronted geese migration
In February 2015,Research group from CESS (Center of Earth System Science), Tsinghua University captured and released 4 White-fronted Geese equipped with GPS-GSM in Poyang Lake, Jiangxi Province, aiming to get a better understanding on the spatio-temporal migration patterns of East Asian birds under the influence of environmental mechanisms.
According to the up to date tracking data, White-fronted Geese THU05、THU01、THU02 and THU03 left the stopover near the Nenjiang basin in the northeast of China and fled northward to the Siberia breeding ground in northern Russia in May 14, 16, 17 and 20, respectively (Figure 1). White-fronted Goose THU01arrived at breeding ground, Lena Delta, in May 29, 2015 (Figure 2). Up to now, the flight distances of THU01, 03, 02 and 05 are 5200, 3800, 4400 and 4500 km respectively.
