Abstract

In this talk, Prof. Liou will introduce the application of land surface remote sensing to detect the environment changes and then to assess their social impacts. Satellite images and field investigation are integrated to study the change of Jakobshavn Glacier in Greenland, Hailuogou Glacier in Sichuan, and Yuanmou Earth Forest in Yunnan. Great changes were identified in these regions as consequences of socio-economic development.  It raised the great challenge to balance the development and environment protection.  

Presenter Profile

Dr.Liou received a Bachelor of Science from the National Sun Yat-Sen University in 1987, and a Masters in Atmospheric and Space Sciences from the University of Michigan in 1994. He completed a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences at the University of Michigan in 1996. Since 1996, Dr. Liou has been a professor in National Central University, Taiwan. Prof. Loiu was elected as a Foreign Member of Prokhorov Academy of Engineering Sciences, Russian Federation in 2008; a member of International Academy of Astronautics in 2014; and a fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology in 2015. The current research interesting of prof. Liou includes satellite remote sensing, geoinformation, and hydrometeorology. He has published more than 100 journal papers and served as an editor member for more than ten journals.
